The Placement Essay Coach uses a simple written-feedback model. Students complete timed practice essays, and feedback is returned in a shared Google Doc so parents and students can see progress over time.
Self-Guided Materials vs. Custom Feedback
Self-guided materials are downloadable workbooks and reading practice PDFs that families use independently at home.
Custom feedback services use a shared Google Doc. Students complete assigned practice essays, and feedback is returned with informal score estimates, sentence-level notes, revision priorities, and parent summaries.
Step 1: Parent Inquiry
Parents complete a short inquiry form with the student’s age or grade, writing background, test timeline, and college or dual-enrollment goal if known.
This helps determine whether the service is a good fit and which package makes the most sense.
Step 2: Shared Google Doc
Each student receives a private Google Doc used as a writing portfolio.
The document may include:
assigned prompts
student essays
informal score estimates
feedback notes
grammar and style lessons
revision assignments
parent summaries
final readiness notes
This keeps the student’s progress in one organized place.
Step 3: Timed Practice Essay
The student completes a timed practice essay using the assigned prompt.
For the most accurate practice estimate, students should write independently without parent editing, grammar tools, AI tools, or outside rewriting unless a different arrangement has been discussed.
Step 4: Written Feedback
Each review includes:
an informal practice score estimate
explanation of the estimated score
what the student did well
what is holding the essay back
sentence-level feedback
one targeted grammar or style lesson
a focused revision assignment
parent-friendly summary
Step 5: Revision and Next Prompt
The student may revise using the feedback. The next prompt or lesson is chosen based on the student’s biggest current need, such as focus, organization, development, sentence clarity, grammar, or critical thinking.
Weekly Turnaround
For standard weekly essay review, essays submitted by Monday at 12 p.m. are usually returned by Friday.
For intensive prep, students may submit up to two essays per week on a structured schedule. The first essay is typically due Monday, and the second essay is typically due Thursday. Feedback is usually returned within 2–3 business days.
Essays submitted after the agreed deadline may shift to the next available review window depending on current essay slots.
